That was a wonderful talk. I can just imagine Bro. Abbott up at the
podium giving it. Thanks for sharing that with me. I'm glad to hear
that the youth are not getting neglected over there. I want each of them
to know that serving a mission is what God wants them to do and it's
what they need to do. Times are getting rougher and rougher. It's going
to be so much harder to raise a family in righteousness with Christ as
our solid foundation without the blessing of serving a mission. I just
can't see myself getting by without it. No matter how much studying you
do, every young man needs the opportunity to get out and share their
testimony in this capacity. I love that quote by Brigham Young that says
I've known more people who gained a testimony by standing up and
sharing it, than by on their knees praying for it. It's so true. And
what a great opportunity to be called of God to a specific area where
there are people that are prepared for you and need your specific
testimony. What a great responsibility we have to bring the gospel to
people.
Missions are fantastic. I'm excited. This past week has been a bit
of a trial but ultimately I'm coming out of it with a firm resolution to
be always always happy. I'm loving this work. I don't know how I could
ever be bummed when I'm out here having so much fun. Things are so much
easier when you go through them happily, no matter what it is. You just
have to have that perspective and be happy all along the way. Samantha
Smith is getting baptized this Saturday. I'm really excited for that.
She's cool and seeing her get baptized will definitely help her husband
work through his challenges and be baptized as well.
I got the letter and the heel guards, there's a 15cent postage due
on it. I don't know what I'm supposed to do about that but o well.
Hopefully they don't stop my mail because of it haha. I got the blank
thank you cards but I haven't used them. I sent out a bunch of thank you
cards yesterday. It was nice finally having time to thank some of the
wonderful people in the ward that sent me their regards. I'm grateful
for so many people in the ward. They did me so much good in my youth.
I'm glad we have such a fantastic ward. I cannot believe that we have 50
youth in the ward! That seems like a ton. I'm glad they all enjoyed
your indexing activity. I feel that family history is going to be
something that I really focus on after my mission. I know I have a lot
of work to do with getting acclimated to all the websites and things.
That family history class helped and was a good start. I just have to
start getting into it more now.
The GPS is great. It's been a huge help. I really needed it. Thank
you so much for providing that for me. I really appreciate the efforts
that yall put in to save up for that. I'll take good care of it I
promise.
It's been a little while since I've heard from Elder LaPlant but I
know he's doing well. I'm planning on writing him a letter pretty soon
here and regardless, I know we're both busy and we'll have tons to catch
up on after our missions are done anyway. Time is seriously flying out
here. I'm pretty sure I've said this before but I've really never
grasped the concept of how short of a time this two years would be.
Before I came out it felt like I'd have forever out here but now the
time is just ticking by. I want to make the most out of every moment and
the days just do not feel long enough. it's crazy how dramatic of a
shift that was. It's crazy that I'll be getting transferred soon. All I
know is Gaston at the moment. It will be an exciting experience going
somewhere new but a big chunk of my heart definitely is staying in this
ward. I hope that these next few weeks are incredibly fruitful and that I
can leave lots of work for the new missionary coming in to serve here.
Bro Abbott's talk brought back many many memories of camping trips.
All the youth activities were a great strength to my testimony. A good
youth leader is key in any child's conversion I believe and I'm glad
that Bro. Abbott was such a great and influential support to me. He's a
great friend and it was awesome that he was just "one of the gang".
There are so many great leaders that I can't even begin to start a list
of. I'm just glad they all helped me in my decision to go to BYU and
come out here.
Hope all is well
Love yall,
Elder Nair
